Three new poems of mine will be making their way into the world this winter. The first, ‘Paidir’/’Prayer’ was commissioned by Cillian Murphy as he guest-edited the new issue of Port Magazine. From Port’s description of the issue:
“Murphy drew inspiration from a luminous creative moment currently taking place in his native Ireland, where he recently returned to live. He brings much of that creativity into our pages: exciting new fiction and non-fiction from Nicole Flattery, Danny Denton and Lisa McInerney, poetry from John Kelly and Doireann Ní Ghríofa, plus a play extract from progressive theatre company Dead Centre and photography from Rich Gilligan.“
Two art-heroines of mine, Aideen Barry and Alice Maher, were recently invited to exhibit their work at the Katzen Museum in Washington D.C. To mark the occasion, they commissioned a new poem. Unfortunately, I couldn’t travel to the opening, but ‘Split/End’ was beautifully performed on the evening by artist/performer Ceara Conway, and it appears in the gallery catalogue which accompanies ‘Fair is Foul, Foul is Fair’. The exhibition itself is extraordinarily powerful, so if you find yourself in Washington, please visit!
Finally, heartfelt thanks to poetry editor Cal Doyle who included my poem ‘from The Book of Showers’ in the latest edition of The Stinging Fly. The launch will take place at 7.30pm this evening, at the Dublin Art Book Fair at Temple Bar Galleries and Studios. Copies are also available to order here.
